Capoeira has lands in Hackney.

Hackney residents can get healthy this summer as unique martial art sessions come to the area. Capoeira is a Brazilian-style discipline that includes elements of martial arts, dance, social sports and theatre. It can boost health and wellbeing as well as help build up valuable skills.

All ages are invited to take part in this free capoeira training at Morningside Community Centre. These classes will take place every Monday at the community centre on Cresset Road, from 6-7pm for children and 7-8pm for ages 16 and over.

Axe from Capoeira Angola Palmares, the organisation delivering the sessions, said: “Capoeira is suitable for anyone, from the energetic to the more relaxed. It promotes a positive worldview for everyone regardless of background.

This have already seen success in previous sessions funded by Sanctuary.

Sanctuary’s neighbourhoods partnership manager, Toby Moore, added: “The training underlines our objective of supporting residents to lead happy, healthy and fulfilled lives. Capoeira can give a boost to both physical and mental wellbeing and I would encourage all of the community to engage in the sport.”

Any resident  who are interested in the capoeira classes can just turn up to any session. For more information email capoeiraangolapalmareslondon@gmail.com.
